FBIArchive.com recounts the FBI's sensational past

Read over 50,000 articles about the crimes that rocked the nation and the agency that brought them to justice

FBIArchive.com, a free service of NewspaperARCHIVE.com, contains more than 50,000 full-image newspaper pages about crimes that rocked the nation and the agency that brought them to justice. From the creation of the agency in 1908 to the investigation of the September 11 attacks, newspapers tell the story of the FBI and its agents. The archive contains newspaper articles that chronicle the tales of American heroes like special agent Elliot Ness and his "Untouchables" and recount the crimes of villains such as Al Capone and "Machine Gun" Kelly. Explore real life FBI investigations into prohibition, espionage, civil rights violations and organized crime pulled straight from the headlines.

"FBIArchive.com contains thrilling accounts of true crime and archives the history of the FBI, which is so integral to our nations past, present and future," said Greg Hollingsworth a researcher for FBIArchive.com. "The archive is better than watching CSI or Law and Order. This is real life."

In addition to the archive, FBIArchive.com also features a timeline and a brief history of the FBI. The timeline is detailed with newspaper headlines such as the conviction of Bruno Hauptmann for the murder and kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby on February 13, 1935, the FBI investigation into the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Oklahoma City bombing.

"The FBI is one of the most important agencies in our government and FBIArchive.com tells its story," noted Jeff Kiley, General Manager of NewspaperARCHIVE.com. "From J. Edgar Hoover to Watergate, the FBI and its investigations are involved in every facet of American life."

With Adobe Reader and Optical Character Recognition technology, students and researchers can quickly obtain articles about the FBI searching with key words or dates. For instance, if researchers type in "J. Edgar Hoover" articles about the infamous Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation will appear. Specific articles can be found by typing in a date along with a key word. If "King" is searched on April 5, 1968, the day after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, articles about his death and the FBI's investigation can be found.

FBIArchive.com is part of a series of free newspaper archives that include TitanicArchive.com, MartinLutherKingJrArchive.com, September11Archive.com and ProBaseballArchive.com. Topics for future free archives can be suggested by emailing news@newspaperarchive.com

Researchers interested in finding more information about the FBI can go to NewspaperARCHIVE.com where there are 690,284 newspaper images on the FBI and 24,563 on the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Additional articles about specific cases and criminals can also be found on NewspaperARCHIVE.com. For example, there are more than 5,412 newspapers pages with articles on Bonnie and Clyde. NewspaperARCHIVE.com, the largest database available online, is owned by Heritage Microfilm and began in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1999.
